Finding a SEBI registered research analyst in Chennai
There is no Chennai register. There is no local licence. There is one national list. There is a four-step check you can run in five minutes. And there are a few things a local desk really does change.

The short answer. SEBI keeps one national register of Research Analysts. So an analyst in Chennai is checked like one anywhere else. Search the INH number on SEBI's own site. Check that the name and the city match the website you are on. Potoos Research Services is one of the registered analysts in Chennai: INH000027380, Vinoth Kumar S. There are others. The register is the place to check every one of them. Start with us.
There is no Chennai register, and that is the useful part
SEBI keeps one national register of Research Analysts. There is no separate Chennai list. There is no local licence. No regional authority vouches for anyone. An analyst in Chennai is checked the same way as one in Mumbai or Coimbatore. You check the registration number on SEBI's own site.
The city gives you a second thing to match. The address on the register should agree with the address on the website you are reading. A site may advertise a Chennai office. If the register shows another state, ask about that before anything else happens.
A local address is not a credential either. Plenty of unregistered operators run from an office you could visit this afternoon. This order protects you. Check the number first, then the name, then the city. Only then have the sales conversation.
How to check one, in four steps
Get the registration number
A Research Analyst number begins with INH. An Investment Adviser number begins with INA. That is a different registration, with different permissions. If a firm will not give you a number, the conversation is over.
Search it on SEBI's register
Open SEBI's register of Research Analysts. Type the number into the search box. Do not scroll the list.
Match the name and the city
Read the record that comes back. The registered name and the city should be the same on SEBI's site and on the firm's. Do not trust a certificate image. Anyone can make one in an image editor.
Find the grievance route before you pay
Every registered analyst publishes one. They publish monthly complaint data too. You can take a complaint to SEBI SCORES or SMART ODR yourself. Look for it while you are still deciding. Not afterwards.
The longer version of this check is here. You can run every step of it on us. That is how you verify any research analyst, in Chennai or anywhere else in India.
What a Chennai desk does and does not change
For the research itself, very little. Calls reach you the same way wherever the desk is. The market is the same market. Nobody needs to be in your city to write an entry, a target and a stop-loss.
Three things it does change, and they matter:
- Language. A Chennai desk can answer in Tamil. That matters a lot when you ask about position sizing. It matters when you ask why a stop was set where it was. Our Tamil pages are here.
- Reachability. Same working hours, same market timings, and a phone number somebody actually answers.
- An address you could visit. It is not proof of anything, as said above. But it is harder to disappear from.
Who is registered in Chennai
Potoos Research Services is one. The analyst is Vinoth Kumar S, SEBI Research Analyst INH000027380, BSE enlistment 7210. The desk is at 16, Kambar Street, New Perungalathur, Chennai 600063.
There are other registered Research Analysts in Chennai. We are not going to describe them. The advertisement code does not allow it. And a ranked list from a competitor would be worth nothing to you anyway. The register is searchable. It is the only list nobody on it can edit. You may see a "top 10 in Chennai" article. Treat it as a way to find names. Then check every name on SEBI's site.
You can apply a method to anyone, including us. That lasts longer than a list of names somebody else ranked.
What to ask, once the registration checks out
Registration is the floor. It is not the recommendation. After it checks out, the questions that separate services are ordinary ones. What exactly arrives, and when? Does every call carry a stop-loss set before entry? What does it cost for the full term, and what does it renew at? What happens if you cancel? And what does the analyst do about trading the securities they recommend?
Ten questions to put to any advisory covers the rest. Our own answers to the money and conflicts questions are published. You do not have to ask for them.
Run the check on us first. Search INH000027380 on SEBI's register. Match the name and the city against this page. Then decide whether anything else here is worth your time. The plans and prices are on the homepage.
